Be Safe in Cyberspace!

The internet has become an invaluable reference tool in the home and is used for a wide range of tasks from searching for a holiday to ordering the weekly shopping list.

Children of all ages are also using the web to play games, download music, help with homework and keep connected with friends.

The internet has many benefits, however there are also some risks that parents need to be aware of. Dangers such as cyber bullying, being exposed to indecent images or contact with inappropriate people are just some of the issues we need to protect children from.

“Children and young people are not always aware of the danger of, for example, sharing personal information about themselves with others,” said Cllr Judith Pritchard, cabinet member for social services. “There are a few simple steps that can be taken to help minimise these risks while making sure your child still experiences the benefits of the internet.”
