Annual Training Plan 2012-2013

LSCB Joint Training

Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs) are statutory partnerships that have been set up to improve the effectiveness of working between agencies that protect children and young people. There is a LSCB established in each authority in Wales and the boards in Caerphilly, Newport, Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire and Torfaen have established a joint training sub group to coordinate safeguarding training across the five authorities

Level 2 Training

Aims: To develop practitioner's knowledge of the child protection / safeguarding referral process and promote effective communication and recognition of professionals' roles and responsibilities.

 

Level 2 Training

Aims: To deliver training to professionals to enable them to deliver basic safeguarding training to fellow professionals in house.

 

Level 3 Training

Aims: To promote good practice and raise awareness of the Neglect issues affecting children and families referencing the Pan Gwent Neglect Guidance and Practitioner's Toolkit recently launched by Professor Jan Horwath.

 

Multi Agency 1 Day Training

Aims and Objectives of the day:

  • Introduce and practice using a selection of direct work tools for individual and group work which aid practitioners in discussing issues such as: healthy and harmful relationships, sex and love, grooming and child sexual exploitation with young people.
  • Explore complexities & practice issues of working with vulnerable young people at risk of sexual exploitation.
  • Examine gender differences and best practice in working with boys and girls.
  • All participants take away a handbook containing all the games and activities that are discussed on the training

 

Multi Agency 1 Day Training

Aims and Objectives of the day:

  • Gain greater understanding of child sexual exploitation and its impact on children and young people.
  • Identify risks/vulnerability indicators for children/young people.
  • Explore professional assumptions and practice issues.
  • Enable identification of children/young people at risk of Child Sexual Exploitation.
  • Inform on Government Guidance, responsibility, context in Wales.
  • Consider the needs of sexually exploited children/young people.
  • Use current research to inform appropriate responses.
  • Gain a greater understanding of how to work together in multi-agency framework, bringing together information and planning appropriate intervention.
