Cwmcarn Forest offers something for all the family. The visitor centre provides a place to stock up on refreshments and gifts as well as finding out about what you can do in the area. Why not get behind the wheel and treat the family to a unique fun day out along the stunning seven miles of Cwmcarn Forest Drive. Explore by car, bike and foot the delights of this hidden wooded valley that culminates in a stunning sequence of views.
The hills of this previously mined area have been transformed into peaceful forests with impressive views. It is difficult to imagine that some of the surrounding hillsides were slag heaps with hardly a tree to be seen. The Forestry Commission started to plant trees here in 1922. Today Cwmcarn Forest in the Nantcarn valley has become a haven for people and wildlife.
Mountain Biking
The Twrch Trail has it all, testing climbs, swooping descents and demanding technical sections. There is 15.5km of almost pure single-track through stunning landscape once scarred by coal mining. Best of all the Twrch Trail is FREE and can be ridden all year.
Camping
Nestling alongside the banks of the Nantcarn Stream, is the 3 star Visit Wales graded campsite. Accommodation is available for up to 27 caravans or tents, with electric hook ups, shower and toilet facilities.
Forest Drive
Head for the hills and take a drive around the spectacular Forest Drive. You can park up at one of the seven car parks to take in the breathtaking views or settle at one of the many picnic and BBQ spots to relax and take it easy.
