9 days of Fun and Activities - 13th-21st September 2008

This summer Caerphilly Council is hosting a special festival to get more people active across the county borough. The nine-day 'Get Active' event will promote active lifestyles to people living and working in the area and encourage participation in a wide range of cultural, educational and physical activities.

‘Get Active’ is a free event which will take place in a number of council facilities, including libraries, leisure centres, Parc Cwm Darran and Blackwood Miners’ Institute.

The festival will be officially launched at Heolddu Leisure Centre on 13th September with an action-packed fun day for the whole family, featuring drama workshops, dance, gymnastics, water volleyball and a sponsored aquablast session.

On Sunday 14th September, local people can ‘Get Active’ at Newbridge Leisure Centre with an open day including a triathlon, free swimming, healthy food tasters, dance and drama workshops.

On Saturday 20th September Risca Leisure Centre will hold a sponsored 3K walk for all the family, as well as football skills workshops, healthy food and fitness tasters plus Adult Education craft displays. During the evening there will also be a special concert by Risca Male Voice Choir.

Caerphilly's Got Talent

Get Active will culminate in a fun day at Caerphilly Leisure Centre on Sunday 21st September where visitors can take part in all sorts of activities, including Latin American Dancing, Samba workshops, trampolining and pool fun sessions.

The highlight of the day will be ‘Caerphilly’s Got Talent’, a competition for talented people living and working in the county borough, to compete for their chance to win a holiday.

In addition, there will also be famous author readings and fun sessions at various libraries throughout the ‘Get Active’ week.
