What is Health Challenge Caerphilly?

Health Challenge Caerphilly county borough (Health Challenge Caerphilly CB) was launched in July 2008 to promote the health and wellbeing of the people of the county borough. It is the local response to Health Challenge Wales, which laid down the challenge to everyone in Wales to make small and inexpensive changes to your daily routine to lead healthier lifestyles.

Health Challenge Caerphilly CB is a partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council, the Caerphilly teaching Local Health Board, the local public health team and a number of voluntary and private sector organisations. We work together to encourage and support people to lead happy and healthy lives by providing information about local activities and services and links to the most up to date advice on a range of health related issues.

Health Challenge Caerphilly CB is not an organisation in itself, but any activity, which improves health and wellbeing in the county borough, is branded with the little yellow person!

In line with the Welsh Government document “Our Healthy Future” we have ten priority areas for action. These are:

  • Reduce inequities in health
  • Improve people’s mental well-being
  • Improve health in the workplace
  • Cut the levels of smoking
  • Increase physical activity
  • Reduce unhealthy eating
  • Stop the growing harm from alcohol and drugs
  • Cut the number of teenage pregnancies
  • Cut the number of accidents and injuries
  • Increase immunisation rates
