Smokebugs! is a national smoking prevention project for children (ages 8–11 years old), aiming to promote the smoke-free message. Each year, children in Year 4 throughout Caerphilly are invited to join Smokebugs! Once they are a member they will then receive information to their home address including newsletters, activity packs and a discount card for local attractions. Smoke Free Class is a European initiative to prevent the uptake of smoking. The program is run in secondary schools in years 7 and 8. Pupils pledge as a class to remain smokefree. The Caerphilly Adolescent Smoking Cessation project is for young people (ages 12 – 18 years old, male and female) who would like support to stop smoking. The project is run in youth settings such as schools, youth clubs, and colleges. A volunteer (youth worker, teacher, etc.) is trained to deliver the 6-week programme; one session per week for 6 weeks to a group of young people. Wasted is a bilingual teaching resource on CD rom with am emphasis on trading standards and age related purchasing laws.
