Smokebugs

Smokebugs! is a national smoking prevention project for children (ages 8–11 years old), aiming to promote the smoke-free message.  Each year, children in Year 4 throughout Caerphilly are invited to join Smokebugs!  Once they are a member they will then receive information to their home address including newsletters, activity packs and a discount card for local attractions.  Membership is free and lasts for three years. Smoke Free Class

Smoke Free Class is a European initiative to prevent the uptake of smoking. The program is run in secondary schools in years 7 and 8. Pupils pledge as a class to remain smokefree. Adolescent Smoking Cessation project

The Caerphilly Adolescent Smoking Cessation project is for young people (ages 12 – 18 years old, male and female) who would like support to stop smoking. The project is run in youth settings such as schools, youth clubs, and colleges. A volunteer (youth worker, teacher, etc.) is trained to deliver the 6-week programme; one session per week for 6 weeks to a group of young people. Wasted!

Wasted is a bilingual teaching resource on CD rom with am emphasis on trading standards and age related purchasing laws.
Additionally it encourages discussion and development of positive attitudes towards health, personal responsibility and social issues. For further information contact Kath Peters, Senior Trading Standards Officer on 01495 235291.
