Success for the first netball residential
camps
01.09.2005
Following the development of residential accommodation at Ynys Hywel
Outdoor Activity Centre, Caerphilly County Borough Council
has launched a brand new scheme providing residential Netball
Camps for the under 12’s and under 14’s. Each
course runs for two and a half successive days, during which
the participants are encouraged to partake in activities such
as kayaking, abseiling, team building activities, orienteering
and mountain biking. Supervised by a team of experienced Level
One Netball Coaches, participants are also taught specialised
Netball skills which can later be put into practice during
sessions of match play.
The residential camps provide Netball enthusiasts with a
chance to develop both social and personal skills, while providing
the individuals with a chance to demonstrate independence
in a friendly and secure environment. Above all, the camps
pride themselves on bestowing a good time for all attendants.
Cllr Harry Andrews gave up some of his valuable time to visit
the camp and present some players with their awards.
Nicola Lewis, Netball Development Officer, said “Both
these camps were very successful. This is the first time Caerphilly
has held residential netball camps and I think the combination
of both netball and outdoor activities were superb in providing
the children a great time and a chance to develop themselves
as individuals. The staff at Ynys Hywel are excellent and
the accommodation and food were all of a very high standard.
Due to the success we will be holding more residential camps
and I’m sure the next camp will be a sell out!”
