Climbing high at Heolddu Comprehensive
22.09.2007
Pupils at Heolddu Comprehensive School were in for a real treat this week when they enjoyed a visit by the International Climbing Centre in Trelewis.
On Tuesday 16th October, representatives from the centre visited the school with their mobile climbing wall to give the students the opportunity to have a go at climbing.
The visit was organised through the 5x60 scheme, which is run by the Active Young People Team based within Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Sports Development Unit. The weather on the day was not ideal. However this did not dampen the spirits of more than 60 brave students and a number of staff which ventured up the wall.
Lee Phillips, 5x60 Officer for Heolddu Comprehensive School, said “More than 150 pupils have taken part in the 5x60 scheme during its first 5 weeks at the school. This is a real indicator that the school has embraced the scheme and I am really looking forward to encouraging the pupils to become more active, more often.”
