Caerphilly hockey team crosses border to take on Rhondda

Caerphilly U13 boys and girls hockey team

26.10.2007

Caerphilly U13 Boys and Girls travelled to Pontypridd (30th September) to play an Inter Unitary Authority mixed hockey game against Rhondda Cynon Taff.

The match ended in a draw with 0-0 as the end result.

Beverly Rogers, Hockey Development Officer for Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Sports Development Team, said, “We were fortunate with the weather conditions, being a warm sunny afternoon. It was also very pleasing to see so many parents supporting their children on the day. Both teams played some excellent hockey, especially since it was the first time some of the players had ever played together.”

Judith Powell, Hockey Development Officer for Rhondda Cynon Taff, was also very pleased with how the day went. She said, “There were chances at both ends which was very exciting, but on the day a draw was a fair result as both teams were not prepared to push players up in the last couple of minutes to snatch a win.”

Hockey is a growing sport across both Caerphilly County Borough and Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Beverly and Judith are keen for more young people to get involved. There are a number of Hockey clubs throughout both local authority areas.
