Focus on club and coach development
11.01.2008
The London 2012 Olympic Games will create massive opportunities for Welsh sport. Caerphilly County Borough’s Sports Development team is keen to make the most of these opportunities and has re-structured its department in order to create the most impact.
The Olympic Games will raise the profile of sport in the media and this way people will be inspired to get involved. To create a strong legacy for the Olympic Games it is essential to have a wealth of coaches and leaders who can lead sporting sessions for young people, and to have strong sports clubs which can cater for large numbers of new members.
For this reason Caerphilly Sports Development has created two new posts within the department. Working closely with the Active Young People Team and the sport-specific officers the new Club Development Officer and Coach Development Officer will provide support for local sports clubs, volunteers and leaders.
The Club Development Officer will work to create high quality sports clubs within the authority and assist people with establishing new clubs. The Coach Development Officer will raise the profile of coaching and encourage people to take up leadership and coaching qualifications, creating more opportunities for people to participate.
