Friends of Llancaiach FawrDear Friend, Thank you for joining the Friends of Llancaiach Fawr. We're very glad to welcome you on board, and we're sure that you'll find it interesting and rewarding, particularly if you are able to spare a little time to help Llancaiach in its unique role of introducing the seventeenth century to visitors from the twenty-first. Since Llancaiach Fawr opened in 1991, we've done a hundred and one things to assist in turning Colonel Prichard's marvellous house into a home. The Prichard family portraits were commissioned by us, and the knot garden is another project that we funded. Our latest project is to fund a "Great Chair", carved with the Prichard coat of arms, a fitting seat for the Colonel to dispense justice, or King Charles when he comes to visit. We've also bought dozens of the smaller objects that do so much to make the As Llancaiach Fawr becomes more and more "hands on", we've paid for things like butter churns and candle dippers that visitors can see in action - and try for themselves. We've provided collections of items for school parties to explore in the education block. We've also helped disabled visitors to enjoy Llancaiach Fawr. A Just as important as our fund-raising is the work that the Friends do at the Manor. You can find us in costume, adding to the cast of characters in the house. Other Friends help with car parking, or provide an information point for visitors at major events. Behind the scenes, we're busy altering and repairing costumes, assisting in the gardens and helping in a variety of other ways. The exciting developments planned for Llancaiach On the social side, the Friends organise a number of evening events through the year, some with an historical theme, some not. Our quizzes are particularly popular. We also run occasional trips to places of interest. Llancaiach Fawr shows that it values our contribution by giving the Friends free admission to the Manor. (nb: charges may apply for special events) There are now more than two hundred Friends of Llancaicach Fawr, but we always have room for more. So even if you don't have time to assist us in other ways, you can help us by spreading the word about the Friends. If you have any queries, our Membership Secretary, Anne Jones, will be glad to help. Her number is 01874-622615. Or you can email her at anne.persondy@btinternet.com. If you'd like more information about volunteering, don't be shy. Give our Volunteer Co-ordinator, Jan Fitzgerald, a call on 01443 815469, or email, her at janfitzgerald@talktalk.net.
