Risk assessment
Please note the following information prior to your visit to Llancaiach Fawr and refer to the matrix for Specific Risk Assessments.
Information for leaders of school parties
Please make sure that you monitor the young people with you at all times. We admit one adult free of charge per 10 children for general supervision and a higher ratio for nursery schools, special needs etc.
Formal Gardens
- There is a pond in front of the Manor, guarded at each end by gates to restrict access, surrounded by drystone walls.
- Be aware that some plants in the gardens may be poisonous and others may cause allergic reactions. Please do not allow children to wander unsupervised.
- We have spent considerable time and money recreating typical 17th century features in the gardens. Please ensure children keep to the paths to avoid accidents and damage.
- Drawing pictures of the Manor House is always popular and there are suitable sites for this, please ask us.
Visitor Centre including Education Centre
- Regular Fire Drills are held in the Manor House and Visitor Centre. If the Fire Alarm sounds please evacuate the building by the nearest available exit or follow alternative instructions given by Llancaiach staff. Maps are available, on request, showing all Fire Exits, Fire Glass, Fire Extinguisher and Fire Assembly points.
- Please use the bins in the schoolroom for rubbish and ensure that children do not catch their fingers in, climb on or inside the large waste container in the courtyard.
- Please prevent children from swinging or playing on the metal railings surrounding the walkway between the Education Centre and the Manor Gardens.
- There are toilets for disabled people in both the Visitor Centre and the Education Centre. Please supervise the use of toilets.
Manor House
- Was built in 1530 and has uneven floors and irregular steps consistent with all buildings of the period.
- There are no toilet facilities in the Manor House.
We continuously monitor, maintain a Hazard Reporting Logbook and take all possible action to minimise risks to visitors. If you come across something amiss please advise a member of our staff as soon as possible.
