The Cook
Bleddyn is the Master Cook of the household, and very much prized by the Prichards – particularly the Mistress, for he is very skilled in the preparation of sweetmeats! He is the son of Tomos ap Huw who was Master Cook in the household of William Herbert of Cogan Pil, until the death of his own father in 1637, when Tomos inherited the tenancy of the family farm at Larnog. It was from his father that Bleddyn learned his craft. Evan Llwyd, the Under Cook is a real thorn in Bleddyn’s side! Because he feels that he should rightfully be Master Cook, he often attempts to undermine Bleddyn’s position by trying to spoil the food – indeed on one memorable occasion he ground up salt and mixed it with the sugar that Bleddyn was using for Milady’s sweet tid-bits! When Bleddyn found out, he broke his best ladle on Evan’s head! Bleddyn is not married, although there are those who think that perhaps he should be – particularly in view of the gossip abroad a couple of years ago concerning the child born to Sally Rhys of Cogan… |
