If he isn’t about the stables, you may well meet Jenkin Jones…

Although you may not guess it on first meeting him, Jenkin Jones has a romantic side that he tries to keep well hidden!

Verity was and is his first and only true love. They met when they were both young in their home village of Merthyr Tydfil, but Jenkin’s father John, found employment as a groom for a gentleman living in Cardiff, so he and his family moved away and so lost contact with her.

Subsequently, he and his father being staunch Protestants, joined the armies that went to war in Europe for the Protestant cause but sadly John was killed in battle, so Jenkin returned as head of the family. He and Verity met once more and love blossomed so they were married as soon as was possible.

By good fortune, Edward Prichard was seeking a new groom and having heard of Jenkin through the network of Baptists, employed him.

Of course, as Jenkin’s mother was now a widow, she came to live with him and Verity, which is all very well with two little ones and an older boy to care for but sometimes, with two women in the kitchen, Jenkin finds quite a lot of work to do in the stables!
