Valet/Bodyservant
Then of course, there’s John Bolitho, the Colonel’s Valet and Close Body Servant… His background is a little bit of a mystery. It seems that he came to Wales from Cornwall via London, no one quite knows how or why… there are rumours of a deserted wife, but nobody is sure of the truth! His main duties are of course, to attend to the Master’s clothing, ensuring that it is properly laundered and in good order (so he takes every opportunity to go and chat with the Laundry and Still Room Maids!), but with the Civil War upon us, he must also help to take charge of Militia matters and defence. He was a soldier for many years and fought in several campaigns before somehow finding his way into the Prichard household. He is very much valued by Edward Prichard, for his knowledge of weaponry and tactics in these turbulent times. |
