Taxi licence policies

We are responsible for the licensing of hackney carriages and private hire drivers, vehicles and operators. The overriding consideration is the safety of the public and as such we will ensure as far as possible that drivers are suitable persons to do so, being safe, courteous, honest and who would not take advantage of any passenger.

We have introduced policies to assist us when determining applications or resolving other matters that may arise in respect of drivers. These include a Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver’s Policy & Fitness criteria for drivers and operators and an Intended Use Policy for the licensing of hackney carriages.

Licensed vehicles are subject to a testing regime to ensure as far as possible that they are mechanically safe, clean and comfortable. To assist vehicle proprietors the public and those persons inspecting the vehicle we have adopted a Vehicle Inspection Standard.
