Caerphilly County Borough Council is officially a Bronze Level Carbon Literate organisation

Caerphilly County Borough Council has been accredited as a Bronze Level Carbon Literate Organisation.

This accreditation highlights the organisation's dedication towards tackling climate change, reducing its organisational carbon emissions and its commitment to working towards a lower-carbon future.

Cynnal Cymru delivered an accredited course to officers working on the Decarbonisation Strategy. As a result, over 50 staff members have received the training and gone on to become formally certified as Carbon Literate.

Each learner has pledged to make and implement changes within their work which will reduce carbon emissions and contribute to the organisation’s commitment to be a net zero carbon local authority by 2030.

In 2019, Caerphilly County Borough Council declared a Climate Emergency and committed to becoming a net zero carbon local authority by 2030. Achieving Bronze Level Carbon Literate Organisation status is one of the first steps on this journey to embed a low-carbon culture.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Prosperity, Regeneration and Climate Change commented, “We are proud to have been accredited as a Bronze Carbon Literate organisation and it is the first step on our Carbon Literacy journey. The award highlights our dedication to our net zero carbon commitment”.

Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project, said, “Carbon Literacy is an essential skill, vital to every workplace, community and place of study. By becoming a Bronze Level accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Caerphilly has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact and the building of a low carbon future for us all”.
