Firm gives park a facelift

(06.09.2007)

A group of volunteers from a local business have been rolling up their sleeves to help regenerate Waunfawr Park in Crosskeys.

Representatives from Caerphilly county borough council’s Parks Service joined forces with Groundwork Caerphilly and eleven staff from the international finance firm JPMorgan to help improve the facilities within the park

The group recently gave up their day to build raised flowerbeds, a BBQ area, new seating and a wildlife pond.

The impressive improvements will benefit all who use the park, including Waunfawr Primary School, who have started work on a special ‘forest classroom’ which will be used on a weekly basis as an inspirational alternative venue to the normal classroom.

Staff and service users at the nearby Brooklands Day Centre also use the site to store specially modified bicycles, which they use around the park.

The greenhouse and raised beds will both be accessible to wheelchair users and the BBQ area will benefit any groups wishing to use the park for recreational purposes.
