Order a recycling bin - Frequently asked questions

I want to change the size of my bin

If you wish to change the size of your bin to a smaller or larger one please request an exchange via the online form above.

If you wish to swap your 140 litre bin for a 240 litre bin, we will only exchange if the size of your household requires the additional capacity and we are satisfied that you are recycling as much as possible. There is no charge for this service.

My bin has been damaged or taken by the collection crew

If your bin goes into the back of the collection vehicle or is damaged when it’s being emptied the collection crew will report this to their supervisor, and your bin will be replaced free of charge.

My bin has gone missing or has been vandalised/stolen. Do I still have to pay?

It is your responsibility to make sure your bin is kept safe and off the highway in-between collections. We would advise that you check around your property or that your neighbour hasn’t taken yours by mistake before requesting a new one. If you cannot find your bin you will have to purchase a replacement.

How can I stop my bins from being stolen?

Mark your bins clearly with your house name or number. Place your bin out for collection late in the evening before your scheduled collection, or before 6am on your collection day. Remove your bins off the highway back onto your property as soon as possible after collection.

Why doesn’t my council tax cover the cost?

A small amount of council tax goes towards the collection and disposal of waste but does not cover the cost of the actual bins.

Do I need to pay for my bin for a new property?

You will need to purchase a bin if it is a self-build property. If you have purchased a new house from a developer you will need to check with your developer as the bin may have been included as part of the sale. If the bin has not been included, you will have to pay.
