A proxy vote enables the elector to appoint another person to vote on their behalf, either at the polling station or by post.
To be eligible for a proxy vote, you must state the reason why you are unable to attend the polling station. This may be because:
- You have a physical disability. In this case, you may have to include a declaration that the information is correct by a Doctor, nurse or warden of a home.
- Your work takes you away from home either on a permanent basis or on the particular day of the election.
- You will be on holiday when the election is taking place.
- You have moved house since you registered and are unable to go to your old polling station.
Applying to vote by proxy
If you wish to vote by proxy either as a one-off or permanently, will need apply to the Electoral Registration Officer. For an application form contact Electoral Services on 01443 864203.
You can also request a form online. Unfortunately you cannot complete the request online because we need your signature for legal purposes. Simply give us your details and we will post you the form to complete, sign and return.
An alternative to proxy voting is postal voting.
If you appoint a proxy, you can still attend a polling station and personally cast your vote provided that the proxy has not already voted on your behalf.
Although we may send ballot papers to addresses outside the United Kingdom, electors wishing to vote by post or proxy should bear in mind the length of time taken for delivery and return in time for the election.
