The electoral register is a record of everyone who lives within the boundaries of the local authority and who are eligible to vote at elections.
This is kept in two versions:
- Full version which includes all electors and is only used for elections and credit reference checks. Everyone must by law appear on this Register, although there are now provisions to register anonymously if you can verify that your safety would be compromised.

- Edited version which only includes those electors who have given permission for their details to be on that list. The edited version may be sold commercially and you must use the "opt out" provisions to ensure your details are not used for this purpose.
If you are eligible to vote you will be given the opportunity to have your details included in the electoral register. Then, prior to an election, you will be sent an official poll card advising you how to cast your vote.
Annual review of the electoral register
Every year from the mid August until end of November a full audit /review of the electoral register is undertaken. Each household is sent a Registration Form containing the name(s) of the person(s) currently registered to vote at that property (if any).

Requesting amendments outside of the annual review
As well as during the annual audit/review period, you may also requesting changes to the electoral register at any other time of the year.
