A student is a person other than a student nurse who is:
- Undertaking a full-time course of education at a relevant educational establishment which:
(a) Subsists for at least one academic year;
(b) Requires attendance for 24 weeks in each year; and
(c) Requires a minimum period of study (not work experience) of 21 hours per week; or
- Under 20 years of age and undertaking a qualifying course of education at a relevant educational establishment which:
(a) Is not a full-time course of education or a course of higher education;
(b) Subsists for a minimum of 3 calendar years;
(c) Requires a minimum period of study of at least 12 hours per week;
(d) Is not undertaken in respect of employment;
(e) Is normally undertaken between 8.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m.
The application form must be completed by or on behalf of the person who is liable to pay council tax. It must be supported by a student certificate completed by the certification officer of the educational establishment concerned.
Remember, a single person discount (25%) can only be awarded where ONE person remains liable after others have been disregarded, for example, in a three adult household two have to qualify to be disregarded before a discount can be awarded.

Please complete the form in black ink and in block capitals and return it to us together with any supporting documentation to the address in the top right hand corner.
If your application is accepted, you will then be sent a revised payment schedule.
Remember, if your circumstances change and you are no longer entitled to a discount you MUST inform us straight away to avoid facing a penalty.
