We provide schools with a number of opportunities to recycle:
Free recycling containers
The majority of schools in Caerphilly county borough now recycle at least one material. We provide these schools with free recycling containers for the collection of paper, plastic bottles and cans.
All primary schools within the borough have been provided with a teachers recycling toolkit, which includes information and activities for the classroom.
Free compost bin for schools
All schools in the county borough are entitled to a free compost bin with a 'how to use' handbook. This can be used to recycle items such as fruit, vegetable peelings, grass, paper and small amounts of cardboard (but not cooked food).
Additional compost bins can be purchased at a subsidised price of £10 each.
For more information on recycling in schools please email Public Services or call 01443 866533.
Eco Schools Programme
The Eco Schools Programme is a Europe wide project designed to encourage environmental education and action.
The Eco Schools Award Scheme is a straightforward and flexible way for schools to extend environmental lessons outside the classroom and apply them to the day-to-day running of the school. It involves all members of the school community, including pupils, staff and governors working together to develop plans, set and achieve realistic targets and establish an eco code.
There are several themes: litter, water, energy, transport, school grounds, healthy living, waste minimisation and recovery and global citizenship. There are three levels of awards, the bronze award, the silver award and the prestigious green flag.
All schools in Caerphilly county borough have now signed up to the eco schools programme.
