Social services for children and young people

We provide a range of services for children, young people and their families. We have a legal duty under the Children Act 1989 to help and protect children in need. We undertake an assessment to determine the support a family may require to help them promote the well-being and development of a child or young person.

	Needs assessment for children >> Do you need support for a child? If so, get in touch with our Contact and Referral Team. If you are having difficulties we may be able to help you.
	Child protection >> Are you concerned that a child may be suffering from harm, neglect or abuse? If so, you must tell us about it immediately.
	Adoption >> We have many children in our care at Caerphilly, and they deserve the chance to grow up in a loving and secure home. The sort of home we hope you can provide. Visit our adoption website to find out more.
	Fostering >> Are you interested in becoming a foster parent and making a tremendous difference to a child's life, while enriching your own? We offer full training, continuous support and financial assistance, including generous fees. Visit our fostering website for further information.
	Looked after children >> Sometimes, for a number of reasons, children are not able to live with their families. We provide care for these children.
	Leaving care >> Are you a young person who will soon be leaving care? We provide young people with support and advice to help them to live independently in the community after leaving the care of the authority.
	Children with disabilities >> Does your child have a disability or need and you feel you need support? Contact us for an assessment.
	Rights of children and young people who are looked after >> Our Children's Rights Officer represents children and young people in Caerphilly by ensuring that they receive support from Caerphilly Children's Services, know their rights, and are listened to and treated fairly.

	Family support services >> Our Family Support service can arrange services for children and families who have been assessed as being 'in need'.
	Transition to adulthood >> Some young people aged 13-19 need a Transition Plan to help them with their transition into adulthood. This plan is particularly important if the young person needs additional support in school or college, or from health and social services.
	Private fostering >> Is someone else looking after your child, are you looking after someone else's child or do you know someone who is caring for someone else's child? If an arrangement has been made with the parents for a child to live under someone else's care (who is not a close relative) for at least 28 days, it is referred to as private fostering and you must inform us about it.
	Youth Offending Service >> Blaenau Gwent & Caerphilly Youth Offending Service offer a range of services to young people aged 10–17 years old who are at risk of, or involved in, offending behaviour.
