There are two Records Offices whose services are available to residents of the Caerphilly county borough. Gwent Record Office and Glamorgan Record Office.
Both Record Offices collect and preserve records which contain information about the historic counties of Gwent and Glamorgan, and make these records available to the public.
Records held may date from as far back as the 13th century right up to the present day, and relate to:
- Local government in the counties
- Private individuals and organisations: for example, records relating to estates, families, businesses and industries
- Ecclesiastical records, including registers of baptisms, marriages and burials
- Maps
- Magistrates' and Coroners' Courts
- Shipping Registers
- Manorial and tithe records
- Microfiche copies of census returns and General Register Office Index to Births, Marriages and Deaths

- Trace the history of your family
- Discover the history of your town, village or house
- Carry out research for a school, college or evening course
Gwent Archives
The service maintains archival records relating to Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.

Glamorgan Record Office
The Glamorgan Record Office (GRO) provides the archive service for 6 south Wales local authorities - Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Six local authorities have come together to provide the region's historic archives with a purpose built, state of the art facility as part of the Leckwith development in the west of Cardiff. As well as the new stadium for Cardiff City Football Club and the Cardiff Blues the development includes a new athletics stadium, retail development and a Park and Ride scheme.
