Work has started on a long-awaited road scheme that will help breathe new life into Bargoed and improve transport links in the upper Rhymney Valley.
The £20million Angel Way will provide a much-needed boost to the area by greatly improving the highway network between the communities of Bargoed, Aberbargoed, Gilfach and Pengam.
The 2.2km road, funded by the Welsh Government, features 2km of cycleways as well as a number of impressive structures and cross valley links including:
- A 120m arched River Bridge
- A 200m Viaduct spanning the valley
- A new railway tunnel and bus station
The new bus station will replace the existing bus station at Hanbury Square and will be built over the new railway tunnel, to the south of the existing Railway Station. This will improve links between bus and train services.
