Trains started running again in February 2008, providingan hourly train service between Ebbw Vale and Cardiff. Six new stations were provided at Ebbw Vale Parkway, Llanhilleth, Newbridge, Crosskeys, Risca/Pontymister and Rogerstone.
The project restored passenger services to these communities, following the closure of the line in 1962.
The ambitious scheme was promoted by Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Newport councils and supported by the Welsh Government, Welsh European Funding Office, Sewta, Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales.
New Stations
- Newbridge Station, located on the site of the former station in the town, includes a Park and Ride car park and convenient interchange with local bus services.
- Crosskeys Station, located on the site of the former station in the town, adjacent to Carlton Terrace.
- Risca and Pontymister Station, located on a new site, north of Mill Street under bridge. A new car park has been provided, accommodating 94 spaces.
