Work started in Ystrad Mynach in February 2011 on the next phase of a major highway improvement scheme that will help cut congestion and improve traffic flow around the new multi million pound hospital development.
Contracts have been awarded for the next two stages of work, which include the construction of a dedicated 'slip road' providing a direct link from the A469 Llanbradach bypass to the A472 into Maesycwmmer, as well as a new single roundabout layout to replace the two existing 'mini-roundabouts' outside the Royal Oak.
The 65 week scheme started in January 2011 and it is hoped that the works will be as successful as the first phase which involved the construction of a new bridge providing direct access into the Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital site. The scheme was delivered on budget and ahead of schedule.
Funding for the scheme is being provided by Aneurin Bevan Health Board and through a Welsh Government Transport Grant.
