School attendance and inclusion

Attendance and truancy
Is your child missing school? Our Education Welfare Service monitor absences and work with families and young people where the level of absence is giving cause for concern.

Educating your child from home
Some parents choose to educate their children at home, for a variety of reasons. As the Local Education Authority (LEA), we support the right of parents to educate their children at home.

Language and cultural support
Caerphilly LEA is part of a joint service called GEMS providing support to children who do not have English as their first language.

Paid work or work experience for school aged children
Employers must apply to our education department before employing a school-aged child. Find information about local bylaws and how to apply for a permit.

Peformance/stage licences for school aged children
Legisation governing children in entertainment covers children who take part in 'performances', including all broadcast performances, child photography or modelling. Any child engaged in these occupations must have a licence issued by the Local Authority.

Chaperoning children working in entertainment
School-age children, up to and including Year 11, who are taking part in or rehearsing for a public performance must by law be accompanied by a registered chaperone, if the child cannot be accompanied by their parents or carer.

Inclusion – gypsies and travellers
Our Traveller Education Service can support Gypsy, Traveller, Fairground and Circus parents with getting their children into school.
