Housing benefit and council tax reduction - appeals

If you have received a decision about housing benefit or council tax reduction that you think is wrong you can:

  • ask us to look at the decision again
  • ask for an explanation of the decision
  • ask for a statement of reasons
  • appeal to an independent appeal tribunal administered by the Tribunal Service

Making an appeal

We must receive your appeal within one month of the date on the decision letter. If you do not respond within this time you may lose the right to appeal.

To make an appeal download the Benefit Appeals Booklet below. This booklet will provide you with the form as well as other useful information about appeals and the appeals process.

If you are unable to download the form you can contact us by telephone on 01443 864130 or email benefits@caerphilly.gov.uk and request a copy of the form to be sent to you by post.

Finally, appeals can be submitted in writing. However, in order to ensure that your appeal is valid, your letter must include the date of the decision you are appealing against, your grounds or reasons for the appeal and your name and signature.

Remember, whatever method you choose to make your appeal, it must be received within one month of the decision letter or you may loose your right to appeal.
