Caerphilly Outdoor Education Service - FAQs

What activities do you offer?

We offer a wide range of activities including canoeing, kayaking, raft building, mountain biking, climbing, abseiling, archery, orienteering, bushcraft, team building, gorge walking, coasteering, surfing and bodyboarding

Do you have risk assessments for your activities and can we request a copy?

Yes, all our activities have been risk assessed. We do not send out copies of the individual risk assessments as they are technical documents which are likely to change over time. However, we have produced a Risk Management Summary which is available on request or to download below.

Does the centre have an Adventurous Activity Licence?

Yes, and we are inspected whenever necessary, every year if needed. The licence number is on the Risk Management Summary.

Do you have minimum numbers required for a group?

For a day group the minimum number is 10. For a residential it is 20. We can work with smaller numbers but you still have to pay for the minimum number of places required.

Can I just turn up and have a go?

Unfortunately no. We do however have two canoe clubs that run weekly and activity days that run through the summer period.

What do I need to bring?

Please wear old clothes and old trainers as you are likely to get wet and/or muddy. Bring a complete change of clothes, including a towel, underwear, and trainers for changing into. Any specialist equipment will be provided.

What's included in the cost?

The price includes transport, food and equipment. There will be a small additional cost for providing out of Caerphilly county borough pick-ups.

Can I bring the consent forms on the day?

Ideally we would like these sent to us two weeks before. This helps in the planning and allows us to brief staff on the group's medical situation where appropriate.
