Primary school meals

Pupils enjoying a healthy meal at the "Veg of the week" launch

Caerphilly Catering Services serves 13,000 meals in schools every day.

Our menus are carefully planned to meet the Welsh nutritional guidelines for school lunches by our catering managers and food advisers from the National Health Promotion Service team. It is our aim to ensure that all pupils can be provided with a healthy, nutritious meal and that vegetarians and those on special diets are also catered for.

Each day there is a choice of meal, with a vegetarian option, and a selection of vegetables, fruit, milk and water.

Each month there will be a theme menu promoting fruit and vegetables and will feature on the menu as a tasty new dish. Pupils will be encouraged to eat the nourishing vegetables or fruit and learn more about them.

Primary school meals cost £1.80 per day and nursery meals cost £2.20 for a two-course meal and a drink. Meals can be paid for by cheque or cash and is generally collected on a Monday.

Breakfast clubs

Working in partnership with the Welsh Government, the council have introduced free breakfast clubs into many primary schools within the county borough. Breakfast clubs help to develop healthy eating habits in childhood that, positively influence adult eating patterns. For further information about breakfast clubs and participating schools visit School breakfast clubs.
