Indiscriminate and dangerous stopping or parking near schools is putting the lives of children and parents at risk.
Green cone scheme
Approved by the Welsh Government, schools that have completed a School Travel Plan can apply to have specially designed cones supplied to the school. These green cones are then placed on or near the yellow zig-zag 'keep clear' markings outside the school at the start and end of school day.
Banners
Banners have been designed to encourage parents to think about where and how they park around the school. Devised by the Road Safety Team, these banners are attached to railings outside the school near the yellow zig-zag 'keep clear' markings. The banners are normally in use for a week at a time to deliver the message to parents.
The use of both the banners and green cones has achieved considerable success, with the majority of drivers finding alternative places to park. Caerphilly County Borough Council was one of the first authorities in Wales to have a countywide traffic order that makes it illegal not only to park on the markings, but also just to stop in the area to drop off passengers.
