Concessions

Concessionary discounts apply to tuition fees only. Any costs for examinations or accreditation must be paid in full.

If you wish to claim a concession you MUST bring documentary evidence with you when you enrol onto the course. You cannot enrol onto a course without it. Evidence is normally a benefit book or a current official letter confirming your benefit.

The following concessions are available:

Ystrad Mynach College Courses

Course fees are FREE for those receiving any of the following: (Agored fee of £13.00 still payable).

  • Council tax reduction
  • Housing benefit
  • Income support
  • Employment & support allowance
  • Jobseekers allowance
  • Severe disablement allowance
  • Guaranteed pension credit
  • Working tax family credit

20% of the course fee is payable by those students signing the low-income declaration form (under £15,000 p.a.) and for those learners in receipt of state retirement pension.

Coleg Gwent courses

The concession groups below are entitled to FREE tuition fees (exam / accreditation fees will be payable).

  • Jobseekers allowance
  • Pension credit guaranteed
  • Employment & support allowance
  • Asylum seekers
  • Students 16 - 19 years
  • Full-time Coleg Gwent students

Delegates claiming working tax credits only pay 50% of the course fee.

Delegates who sign the low-income declaration form (earn under £15,000p.a) only pay 20% of the course fee.

Fees are paid separately for examinations such as OCR, City & Guilds and WJEC. They are NOT included in class fees and no concessions for available.

LEA accredited courses

The concession groups below are entitled to FREE tuition fees (exam / accreditation fees will be payable).

  • Jobseekers Allowance
  • Guaranteed Pension credit
  • Employment & Support allowance
  • Working Tax Credit - 50% tuition fee
  • Asylum seekers
  • Students 16 - 19
  • Full Time Students

20% of the course fee is payable by those students signing the low-income declaration form (under £15,000 p.a.).

Other costs in addition to the course fees

In addition to the course fees additional costs will also need to be paid:

  • Examination and accreditation fees
    If the course involves an examination or you are awarded an accreditation at the end, additional fees will need to be paid. Examination fees apply to OCR, City & Guilds and WJEC courses. These additional fees are not included in course fees and no concessions are available.

    Welsh courses (WJEC) have an additional charge of £18.00 for the qualification, which is in addition to the course fee. This must be paid when you enrol onto the course.

  • Membership
    Each student will need to pay a small centre membership fee of £1 per term or £3 annually. This fee will also be required during enrolment.

No concessions are available for these additional costs. Concession can only be awarded for the course fees.

Cancellations and refunds

There is no automatic entitlement to a refund of course fees except where a course has failed to start or closed because of low numbers.

Paying for your course

If you need to pay for your course, payments must be made during enrolment. Payment can be made with cash or cheque made payable to "Caerphilly County Borough Council".

If your company is paying your course fees, please bring a company letter confirming this with you to the enrolment session.

If a course lasts for more than 16 weeks, we can arrange for you to pay your course fees in instalments. Please speak to a member of staff during enrolment.
