Reading is one of our most popular pastimes, more popular than gardening and DIY, visiting the cinema, theatre and spectator sport events.
Books have the potential to enrich your life - whether you turn to reading to relax, to relieve stress, as a form of escapism or to fire your imagination!
Looking for something to read?
If you visit one of our libraries and need help choosing what to read our experienced library staff will be more than happy to discuss books and reading choices with you. Reading groups
Reading Groups are a great way to try out a range of different books and authors and to share your reading experiences with other readers.
Reading Groups usually work best if there are between 6 and 10 people - enough people to have a good discussion but not too many to be intimidating. They usually meet once a month (more often is not usually recommended).
Reading Groups can meet anywhere - in your local library, in someone's home, at work or in a pub! There are currently 30 reading groups that meet throughout Caerphilly Borough.
Library based groups are held at:
There are also a number of other reading groups based in the community. If you would like to find out more about these reading groups, please contact your local library.
If you are interesting to set up a group then please contact Library Headquarters on 01443 864059 or email us at libraries@caerphilly.gov.uk.
Caerphilly library service can offer support to reading groups in several ways:
- We have a collection of books specifically for use by reading groups in Caerphilly. The Reading Group collection is made up of very different books - but all of them are guaranteed to get you talking.
- We can give advice about setting up a new reading group.
- We may be able to help you with a venue – our refurbished libraries have space for you to meet.
- We are happy to give talks about the library service to any community group.
