It is important to remember that you may require permission before carrying out improvement work.
As a council tenant you may be able to get compensation from us for improvements you made to your home. Such claims can only be made when you end your tenancy.

Decoration allowances
When offered a new tenancy you may be offered a decoration allowance to assist with the cost of redecorating your new home.
If you are an existing council tenant you may also be entitled to compensation if we need to carry out essential repairs to the inside of your home and cause damage to your decoration.

Compensation for heat loss
If we have to switch off your heating system to carry out essential repairs, we can offer you temporary use of electric heaters to keep your home warm.
To help with the extra running cost of these heaters you may be able to claim compensation. Contact your local housing office for further information.
