Post-16 education options

When you come to the end of your compulsory schooling you then enter an exciting phase in your life where you need to make decisions about what you do next.

There are really three routes you can take:

  1. You could stay in school and follow courses that are available at sixth form.
  2. You could leave school and go to a college. There are many full time courses available at The College Ystrad Mynach. These are listed in the College prospectus that should be available at your school.
  3. Or finally, you could look for work, preferably with an element of training included. Your school, college and careers adviser will help you decide which pathways will help you achieve your goals. Contact details are available in the prospectuses below.

Choosing to stay on at sixth form

A number of sixth form college prospectuses are available to download below:

Caerphilly Basin Sixth Form Prospectus (pdf 715kb)

Upper Rhymney Valley Sixth Form Prospectus (pdf 637kb)

Cwmcarn High School Prospectus (pdf 3.6mb)

Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni Prospectus (pdf 2.1mb)

The College Ystrad Mynach Prospectus

Coleg Gwent Prospectus

Take some time to read these prospectuses. The schools in the Caerphilly Basin and Upper Rhymney Valley Partnership have joined together with The College Ystrad Mynach to form partnerships, which means we can now offer you a far greater range of courses to follow than were available in the past. In September 2010 you will be able to stay on in the sixth form of your choice and still have over 40 vocational and AS courses to choose from.

Don't be afraid to ask someone if you are still unsure what to do when you finish school. Contact details are available in the prospectuses or you can contact the 14-19 Development Unit on 01443 866684 or email whiteak@caerphilly.gov.uk.
