Further your social work career in Childrens Services at Caerphilly Children's Services
Thank you for your interest in Caerphilly Children's Services. We are committed to providing a high quality service to children and families across the county borough.
The Children's Services Division has introduced a number of exciting initiatives in service delivery with a real emphasis on making sure we strive for the very best for children, young people and their families. The division has also worked hard to ensure a strong financial plan, which has created a stable working environment for staff and a strong foundation for service delivery and development.
The Managers and team members work closely together to ensure that the caseloads of staff are manageable and support is available if required. We have recently appointed an experienced practitioner to the post of Mentor to assist in the development of newly qualified and inexperienced staff. We are committed to developing the skills and knowledge of staff to enable them to make a confident and effective contribution to the service.
The future
We have embarked on a programme with Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, to integrate the delivery of Social Services under one management team. This is an exciting opportunity which gives us the chance to review the services we currently deliver and learn from each other to plan the strategy for future service delivery.
We are also involved in various collaborative projects with other Local Authorities bringing together services which can be delivered more effectively on a wider geographical basis.
Our staff are actively engaged in putting the detail to these plans and are helping to shape the services of the future.
These developments combined with a positive recruitment campaign have created a committed and motivated workforce in Caerphilly.
Training and development
The training and development of staff is a key priority for the Directorate and forms part of the regular supervision sessions with staff.
The Workforce Development Team coordinate the delivery of training and development activities for staff, it also offers training opportunities for staff in social care from the voluntary and independent sectors.
We have supported over 40 staff to undertake the degree in social work to enable them to become qualified Social Workers and last year introduced a Trainee Social Worker post to support individuals through their degree programme.
We recognise our role in developing staff for the sector and provided nearly 50 work placements to students on the degree in Social Work at local colleges. It also allows our staff the opportunity to get involved in developing the workforce of the future by passing on their skills and experience.
We are committed to continue to offer our staff opportunities to develop their skills and see this as key to attracting and retaining motivated staff.
