Our Municipal Waste Management Strategy explains how we manage household waste within the borough and the steps being taken towards achieving sustainable waste management.
Municipal waste management is changing shape at an ever-increasing rate. The days of cheap disposal in landfill will soon be behind us, and so the three R's - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle - are becoming ever more important.
We have already made good progress towards sustainable waste management, though there is still much to be done in order to meet targets from the EC and Welsh Government.
The Municipal Waste Management Strategy is intended for use by councillors, council staff, other local councils, residents of the county borough, the business community, the voluntary and community sectors, auditors and the Welsh Government. It will be reviewed on a three-yearly basis to describe the progress the council is making and its aims and objectives for the longer-term future.
Please Note: A new/revised Municipal Waste Strategy is currently being drafted. The strategy below was produced in 2002 and much of the data is now outdated. The council currently offers weekly garden waste, food waste and recycling collections and a fortnightly refuse collection.
