You can be disregarded where your sole or main residence is in one of the following and you are receiving care and/or treatment:
- A residential care home
- A nursing home (including private hospital)
- A mental nursing home
- A hostel or night shelter (in other words, no fixed abode)
- A hospital. If you are in hospital for a short time only, you must continue to pay council tax at your home.
The application form must be completed by or on behalf of the person who is liable to pay council tax and certified in Box D by a responsible person of the home/hostel/hospital and endorsed with an official stamp.
Remember, a single person discount (25%) can only be awarded where ONE person remains liable after others have been disregarded, for example, in a three adult household two have to qualify to be disregarded before a discount can be awarded.
How to apply
If you think you may qualify, call us on 01443 863002 or alternatively you can download the application form below:

Remember, if your circumstances change and you are no longer entitled to a discount you MUST inform the council straight away to avoid facing a penalty.
