There's no doubt about it, walking is good for you. It's good for your heart, it's good for your lungs, it's good for the muscle and bone growth of your children and it's good for your feeling of wellbeing! Strong scientific evidence now supports the many benefits to health of regular walking.
"I have two doctors, my left leg and my right." - George Trevelyan, 1913
Around 80% of the rights of way in the county borough are open and with about 5000 hectares of open access land available for walkers, exploring the countryside couldn't be easier.
To help you discover the rich natural heritage in the county borough we have established several walk guides and are currently developing more. Keep visiting these pages to keep up with new trail guides as they are produced.
If you have been ill or feel that you aren't fit enough to go for a long walk then try our healthy walks. These are easy, short, half hour walks designed to get you back into the walking habit. We also offer a programme of guided walks throughout the year.
