This grant is designed to assist landlords of houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) to ensure that the fire protection measures within their properties are in compliance with the current standards.
Who can apply for a HMO grant?
These grants are limited to:
- Private sector landlords of established HMOs
- For works to address fire precautions and means of escape to established HMOs
How much grant will I receive?
50% grant assistance subject to a maximum of £15,000.
Landlords must comply with letting conditions for 5 years following completion of the works.

If you think your property might be eligible for a HMO grant and you would like to apply you can apply online.

Following your enquiry, an Environmental Health Officer will visit your property and decide whether it would qualify for a grant of this kind.
You will be contacted in writing to confirm the decision of the officer within several days of this visit, however it is usual that the officer will advise you verbally at the time whether the application is likely to be successful or not.
