Libraries - online resources

The Caerphilly Library Service is ensuring that everyone has access to reliable information online by providing free access to some of the UK's top reference resources. As these are subscription databases, they are not freely available to all Internet users. However, they are available to all library members throughout the Caerphilly county borough either from your own PC using your library card or by using the Internet PCs at your local library.

The Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Library Edition is available for free and can be accessed from any computer using your library card. As well as searching the encyclopaedia, this resource has featured pages for This Day in History and Biography of the Day. You can also access a dictionary and thesaurus, historical timelines, country comparisons, a new media collection and much, much more.
The Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Junior Edition for five to 11-year-olds is designed to help with homework, projects and general interest.
The Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Student Edition for 12 to 18-year-olds is a fantastic study tool bridging the gap between the junior and full editions.

Newsbank contains thousands of full-text articles from more than 20 Welsh and over 350 UK newspapers
Theory Test Pro is a highly realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory tests for all vehicle categories. It contains all the official test questions licensed from the DSA, the people who set the tests.
GoCitizen.co.uk is an online study resource for candidates preparing for the Life in the UK test or British citizenship test.
Gale – Infortrac Newstand provides access to more than 1,000 major international, national, regional and local newspapers as well as leading titles from around the world.
Sequels Online provides information about books, titles, authors and their series.
ancestry.com provides census, birth, marriage, death records and more.
Find my past provides accessto over 650 million family history records including the 1911 Census
Issues Online provides information on a broad range of topics relating to our changing society.

Other free web-based online resources and information available at our libraries

librarywales.org provides online services, including the text of back copies of newspapers, community info and library catalogues.
Library catalogue provides a comprehensive search of all books and other resources in our libraries. You can also reserve and renew items using your library membership card.
Community guide and directory has been compiled by the council in partnership with Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) and includes information about the many voluntary organisations, community groups and other agencies across the county borough.
