The home care/domiciliary care service aims to provide practical and personal care services in your own home. Once your needs have been assessed, the service will offer you support with daily living tasks, so that you can remain living in your own home for as long as possible. We will also work with you to develop confidence and possibly regain skills to increase your independence.
Who can have home care/domiciliary care?
You may be eligible for home care if you:
- are an older person who is frail
- have a physically disability
- have a sensory impairment
- have a learning disability
- have a mental health need
- receive regular care from a relative or friend
- are the parent/carer of a child with any of the above conditions
What kind of help/assistance can I get?
The service you receive very much depends on your individual needs. To decide what sort of help you need, you will be assessed by a member of the assessment care management team, who will conduct a needs assessment with you.
Assistance available, could be:
Personal care, such as:
- washing/ shaving/grooming
- dressing/undressing
- getting in and out of bed
- assistance with toileting needs
- Nutrition
Practical care, as part of a care package, such as:
- meal preparation/cooking
- cleaning
- shopping
- laundry
- collecting your benefits or pension

If you'd prefer, you can ask someone else, such as a friend, relative, or your GP to contact us on your behalf.
Will I have to pay for home care/domiciliary care?
You may be asked to make a contribution towards the cost of your home care. However, the amount you pay will depend on your financial situation and how much care you receive. More infromation is provided in the leaflet below, however, we will give you more information about charges before we arrange or provide any services for you.

Domiciliary care providers
The council keeps a registered provider list for the provision of day and/or home care support services and supported living. This means that social services is happy to consider these organisations when it is intended to purchase day and/or home care support for those people whom it has assessed as needing the service under Section 47 of the National Health and Community Care Act 1990.
