Strategic Equality Plan 2012
In April 2011, the Council combined its previous individual Equalities schemes (bar the Welsh Language Scheme) into one Strategic Equality Plan, a year earlier than the statutory date of 2nd April 2012. The 2011/2012 financial year was therefore a pilot year in order to prepare the Council for the the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 (Statutory Duties) (Wales) Regulations 2011.
The Strategic Equality Plan was approved by the council on 13 March 2012 and will be in place for four years, covering the period 2012-2016.
As the requirements of both the Strategic Equality Plan and the Welsh Language Scheme have converged steadily over the years in terms of implementation, a single document - the Equalities and Welsh Language Objectives and Action Plan - has been developed to sit under both policies, reducing duplication of actions even further and streamlining their implementation. This action plan is designed to be reviewed and reported on every year.
