School clothing grants

A school clothing grant of £105 is available to all pupils who receive free school meals and are going into their first year of secondary school (Year 7).

Pupils who are eligible for this grant are identified from existing free school meals records. Once your claim for free school meals has been authorised, Catering Services will send you a letter to show that your children are eligible for free school meals.

A letter stating that your child is eligible for the school clothing grant is automatically sent out in the summer term to all free school meal children who are starting Year 7 the following September. If you have not received this letter by the first week of July, just before the end of the summer term, please contact Catering Services on 01495 235262.

Catering Services provide the letter to state that pupils are eligible for free school meals and clothing grants, but it is the secondary school that awards and distributes the school clothing grant. Therefore please contact the school for information on how to claim the grant. You will need to show your eligibility letter to the school to claim your clothing grant.

Each secondary school in Caerphilly County Borough administers the scheme in different ways, but will usually be in one of the following ways: -

  • Vouchers will be issued by the school to be exchanged for school uniform at certain stores.
  • The school will ask for the receipt and then refund up to the value of the grant.
  • The school will issue school uniform items from stock to the value of the grant.

If you would like any further information about school clothing grants, please contact the comprehensive school your child will be attending.
