School clothing grants

A one-off clothing grant of £105 is paid to all pupils who receive free school meals and are going into their first year of secondary school.

No formal application for this grant is required as eligible pupils are identified from existing free school meal records. Once authorised for free school meals, Catering Services will automatically write to you to tell you that your child is eligible for the grant and how to claim it.

Each secondary school in the county borough administers the scheme is different ways but will usually work in one of the following ways:

  • Vouchers will be issued by the school to be exchanged for school uniform at certain stores.
  • The school will ask for the receipt and then refund up to the value of the grant.
  • The school will issue school uniform items from stock to the value of the grant.

If you would like any further information about school clothing grants, please contact the comprehensive school your child will be attending.
