Litter picking on our roads and streets
Town centres are manually litter picked on a daily basis, whilst the majority of residential roads are litter picked weekly.
All the streets within the county borough are zoned and mechanically cleansed in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Residential streets and interconnecting roads are normally mechanically swept, if accessible twice per month.
Smaller mechanical sweepers are used to cleanse less accessible main roads. Rear lanes and traffic congested areas. Country lanes are cleansed every 3-6 months dependant on litter.
Play areas are cleansed weekly or as required by the Environmental Protection Act 1990. This can also be dependant on local circumstances. Larger parks are cleansed by Parks Services.
