Legisation governing children in entertainment covers children who take part in 'performances', including all broadcast performances, child photography or modelling. Any child engaged in these occupations must have a licence issued by the Local Authority.
Guide to performance licenses (PDF 53kb)
A licence is required if:
- The child receives payment for the performance
- The performance involves absence from school, even if the assignment is unpaid
A licence is not required if:
- The performance is unpaid and no school absence is needed and the performance lasts for four days or less and the child has not performed within the previous six months
Application for a licence must be signed by the parents and accompanied by a photograph. We will only issue a licence when we are satisfied that arrangements for the supervision and protection of the child are adequate, and that the disruption to the child's education is kept to a minimum.
