Located in the north of Caerphilly county borough, Bargoed is set to become transformed into a modern outward facing shopping facility in the heart of the Rhymney Valley.
A brand identity has been developed which will drive forward proposals for Bargoed town and the local communities. The "Big Idea" for Bargoed includes exciting schemes - the construction of a new road and radical changes to the town centre, including a new bus station and comprehensive retail development. Visit www.bargoedsbigidea.co.uk for more information.
Events and activities
Bargoed Town Council actively supports many of the town's initiatives alongside an equally enthusiastic Chamber of Trade. The Greater Bargoed Communities First Partnership plays an indispensable role in driving forward many of the activities.
Summer sees a family fun day called the Bargoed Big Bed, which is held in August at the Heolddu Playing Fields. It caters for all the family with a funfair, arts and crafts and musical entertainment. The Big Screen is a free outdoor cinema held once a year at Hanbury Road Car Park.
Winter is brightened with a lantern parade through the town centre. Young and old alike can make their own lanterns at workshops held prior to the parade.
Bargoed has facilities to cater for all members of the community where they can meet, and chat over refreshments. The Gigabytes cyber cafe, run by the Churches in Action, provides a café, IT Suite and an activities room for young people whilst the Young@Heart facility in the centre of the High street caters for the older members of the community.
